Community-Based Forest Conservation through Small-Scale Energy Solution”

with support of USAID’s Ambassador’s Fund Grant Program (AFGP)

The Mountain Society for Research & Development in Chitral recently concluded a project entitled “Community-Based Forest Conservation through Small-Scale Energy Solutions” in the Kalash Valley, Birir Chitral, with the generous support of the USAID’s Ambassador’s Fund Grant Program (AFGP). The primary aim of this initiative was to alleviate pressure on the region’s natural forests. As part of the project, a sustainable solution in the form of bio-briquettes was introduced to 60 households within the valley. These households received comprehensive training and bio-briquette toolkits to facilitate the adoption of this eco-friendly energy source. Moreover, the local communities were organized into Energy Conservation Groups to streamline efforts. Through extensive awareness campaigns and sensitization programs, the project emphasized the importance of efficient fuel wood conservation and promoted alternative energy sources. As a result, the initiative has been deemed successful, making significant strides towards forest conservation and restoration in the area.
