Wildlife Monitoring and Species Rescue Unit

The Wildlife Monitoring and Species Rescue Unit (WM&SR) is a specialized entity established by the Mountain Society for Research & Development Chitral, dedicated to the Conservation of wildlife populations and the rescue of various species in need. Our mission is to monitor, protect, and rehabilitate wildlife, ensuring the sustainability of ecosystems and fostering harmonious coexistence between humans and animals.

Objectives:

Wildlife Population Monitoring: Our primary objective is to monitor the population dynamics of various wildlife species in the Chitral region. Through systematic surveys and data collection, we strive to understand population trends, habitat usage, and ecological interactions, aiding conservation efforts and informed decision-making.

Species Rescue and Rehabilitation: We are committed to rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned, injured, or distressed wild animals. Our team of dedicated professionals provides medical care, nutritional support, and behavioral enrichment to ensure the physical and psychological well-being of rescued individuals.

Release and Reintroduction: Upon recovery, our goal is to reintegrate rehabilitated animals back into their natural habitats. Working closely with the Wildlife Department and local communities, we facilitate the safe release of animals, promoting their successful transition and long-term survival in the wild.

Community Engagement: We recognize the importance of community involvement in wildlife conservation. By fostering partnerships with local stakeholders and raising awareness about the value of biodiversity, we strive to promote positive attitudes towards wildlife and encourage active participation in conservation initiatives.

Our Achievements:

Since our establishment in 2016, the Wildlife Monitoring and Species Rescue Unit has made a significant contribution to wildlife conservation. With the support of over 300 dedicated volunteers, we have successfully handled close to 64 animal rescue cases, ensuring the safe return of numerous individuals to their natural habitats. Through collaborative efforts with the Wildlife Department, NGOs, and community members, we continue to make a meaningful impact on the Conservation of biodiversity of Chitral and beyond.
